This classic E.M. Reitz shirt has won many fans. It sports a dropped shoulder and a slightly oversized fit. The precise collar is well-sized and easy to pop without being overwhelming. One large bust pocket looks great if you use it, but it doesn't matter if you don't. The petal-shaped side slit offers ease over the hips and gives various tucking options. The sleeve is elbow-length and makes the perfect short sleeve when rolled twice. The cuff has a fine triple-needle detail and a classic pointed placket. It has real shell buttons and is constructed with the tiniest and strongest flat-felled seams.

This shirt is a wardrobe workhorse, serving you equally for mid-week errands, coffee meetings, and garden cocktail hours. She never feels out of place; it is impossible to overdress her or underdress her.

Our Sunday Indigo is currently an E.M. Reitz exclusive; it is woven in Italy with superfine 120s cotton. It is a sturdy and lightweight Lawn at 110G/M2. It is drapey and silken, delicate but not sheer. We are the only company in America offering this fabric at this time.

Indigo is most often associated with workwear and denim, where the hearty natural dye marries with robust fabrics. But at E.M. Reitz - we don't want robust, we want ROMANCE! I asked my mill to make the lightest indigo fabric possible to contrast with the typical expectation of denim. I wanted a finer, more exquisite usage in our beloved ultra-fine cotton lawn we are known for. Boy, did they deliver.

This fabric feels nourishing on the skin, and is meant to be worn formally and informally. She could be paired with a floor-length silk taffeta skirt and take to the dance floor, or saddled up with broken-in jeans and take a slow trail ride.

Expertly woven in Italy, it is dyed with natural indigo - the only choice! The fabric has a rich, deep blue that will soften and evolve beautifully over time. This is a shirt that will tell the stories of your adventures, a patina you can be proud of. Perhaps more than any other fabric, natural indigo dyed offerings age in a way that defies explanation. This is a living, breathing document of your days!

The shirts have been washed for an hour and ten minutes to remove most of the excess indigo dye. Like all true indigo, each piece is unique. You will notice a deep range in the color, especially at the seams. This phenomenon is called “puddling,” and it adds depth and texture to these rich blue garments.

Care Instructions:

Color transfer (crocking) onto furniture or other garments is possible in the early wears and will lessen with washing.

Wash separately in cold water

Hang dry; use hands to stretch and smooth the fabric vertically

Avoid contact with light-colored fabrics and surfaces in early wears

Expect natural fading that enhances the fabric’s character

Due to the nature of natural indigo, we’re unable to accept returns for crocking or dye transfer, and we are not responsible for any staining that may occur. This fabric may require a little extra care at first, but over time, it will become one of the most loved and personal garments in your wardrobe — broken in beautifully and truly your own.

Wear often. Let it age beautifully.
